Independent information. Your decision.
Welcome to Vote in Five.
Elections matter. Figuring out who to vote for shouldn't take all weekend.
Candidate websites, interviews, campaign promises, news articles and public records — the information is out there. It's just scattered everywhere.
Vote in Five brings the important stuff together so you can understand your candidates, compare their positions and make your own decisions without getting lost down an internet rabbit hole.
Vote in Five is a free, independent Canadian voter information tool that began in Lake Country, British Columbia.
Our goal is to make researching candidates, comparing their positions and preparing for election day a whole lot easier.
Easy to understand. Clear information, useful summaries and no unnecessary political jargon.
Independent. We don't endorse candidates or tell you who deserves your vote.
Fair. We aim to apply consistent research standards without favouring political parties or particular viewpoints.
Honest. When we can't verify something, we'd rather say so than guess.
Accessible. Whether you follow politics closely or haven't thought about the election until today, you should be able to find the information you need.
Vote in Five brings together publicly available information, including:
Our approach:
AI has helped research, organize and draft the material in this project. Candidate profiles bring summaries and source links together; the comparison view organizes positions by issue. We also revise content as sources and gaps are identified.
AI can make mistakes or miss context. This is not a claim that every statement has been independently fact-checked or that every relevant source has been found. Open the linked sources when a detail matters to your decision. “No public position found” means a position wasn't established in the research presented here; it doesn't mean a candidate has no view.
Documented corrections are welcome. A useful correction identifies the candidate, the statement and a public source supporting the change.
The website includes municipal candidate information for Lake Country, Kelowna and West Kelowna, plus provincial candidate comparisons for Kelowna Centre, Kelowna–Lake Country–Coldstream, Kelowna–Mission and West Kelowna–Peachland.
Coverage is limited to the elections and profiles already available in the tool. The postal-code finder suggests possible communities, and the optional street-address check can help identify a nearby community. Neither confirms an electoral district or ward. Use the official election authority to check your exact voting area and current election details.
Vote in Five started with a simple idea in Lake Country, British Columbia:
You shouldn't have to be a political expert to make an informed choice.
Local elections affect everyday life, but researching every candidate can be surprisingly difficult.
We wanted to make that easier.
Vote in Five is an independent voter information project, not an official government or election authority website.
My Picks saves choices in this browser's local storage. They are not included in public pages or searchable ballot links. Clearing browser data may remove them. Choose candidates and Add to My Picks. Then Share my list using your device's sharing options (or copy the text), or Print a personal list to take with you.
If it helps, share it with someone who still has to figure out their ballot. More ways to support the project are coming soon.
Help someone find election information and compare candidates.
Four steps. Your own choices.
A few simple steps to go from “Who's running again?” to a ballot you're happy with.
Enter your postal code to explore the available elections and candidates for your area.
Choose your community from the available results. Postal codes can cover more than one voting area, so confirm your provincial district using the official finder before selecting a comparison. In Lake Country, you can also select your local ward.
Browse candidates for Mayor, Council and School Trustee, where applicable, or the provincial comparisons already available.
Compare candidates and open their full profiles whenever you'd like more detail.
Found someone you like? Add them to My Picks.
Review your choices, change your mind, print your list or use Share my list. Choices save automatically in this browser when local storage is available.
My Picks helps you prepare to vote — it does not cast your vote. You may choose fewer candidates than the allowed maximum; you don't need to fill every available place on your list.
Check the official election dates, voting hours, locations and identification requirements.
Where provided, use the voting-location map pin to open Google Maps for directions.

A little know-how goes a long way.
You see the names. You see the promises. But what are these people actually responsible for?
Here's the quick version.
This is a general guide to elections in Canada. Local, provincial, territorial and federal rules vary. Always follow the official election authority for your area.
The person who leads council. Not the person who makes every decision.
In many municipalities, the mayor chairs council meetings, helps provide leadership and represents the municipality. Decisions are made collectively by council.
The people making decisions about your community.
Some communities elect councillors at large, others by ward or neighbourhood. Municipal structures differ across Canada.
People helping govern public school districts where school boards are elected.
School trustees may oversee budgets, policies and long-term planning. School governance and trustee elections differ by province and territory.
For more information on responsibilities, consult your provincial or territorial municipal affairs department and education ministry.
First time voting? Here's a typical in-person process. Exact steps may differ at your polling place.
Go to an official polling location during voting hours. Election workers can show you where to go.
A worker will usually ask your name and confirm your eligibility. You may need to register or confirm your address if the rules for your election require it.
Bring identification accepted for your particular election. The number and type of documents, proof-of-address rules, and alternative identification procedures differ across jurisdictions. Not every election requires two pieces of ID.
Depending on the election, examples may include a government photo ID, a health card, a utility bill or other documents that confirm your identity and address. These are examples only, not a universal accepted-document list.
Check the official rules for the election you're voting in:
For local elections outside B.C., or provincial and territorial elections elsewhere in Canada, consult the appropriate election authority for that jurisdiction.
Accepted identification and eligibility rules vary. The links above are official sources for British Columbia and federal elections; verify the relevant rules before voting.
An election worker will provide the official ballot and explain how to mark it. Check how many candidates you may select for each office.
Go to the voting booth or screened area. Your vote is secret.
Follow the directions printed on your ballot: you may be asked to fill an oval, mark an X, or use another approved method. Do not select more candidates than the ballot allows.
Keep your selections concealed and follow the election worker's instructions for depositing or submitting your ballot.
Once your ballot has been accepted, you're finished.
Look at you, you voting machine.
Ask an election worker before submitting your ballot. Rules for replacing a spoiled ballot vary.
Ask an election worker about assistance and accessible voting options while protecting the secrecy of your vote.
Ballot secrecy is a fundamental part of voting in Canada. Follow instructions for keeping your selections concealed.
Ask an election worker to explain the process without influencing your choice.
Official national guidance: Elections Canada. For local, provincial and territorial voting rules, use the election authority responsible for that election.
You can generally choose fewer candidates than the maximum permitted, but follow the rules printed on your ballot.
No. It's a personal planning list. You still need to cast your official ballot.
Not necessarily. Compare positions on issues that matter to you, and follow the linked sources where you want more detail.
Eligibility depends on the election and jurisdiction. Age, citizenship, residency, registration and other requirements can differ. Check with the election authority for your municipality, province, territory or federal riding.
Rules vary between elections. See Step 3: accepted voter ID and official links.
Check official election information for dates, hours, advance voting and polling locations. Confirm that the location applies to your specific election.
Municipal: local services, budgets, bylaws and planning. Provincial or territorial: regional legislation and responsibilities such as health care and education. Federal: elect Members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons. Some responsibilities overlap.
Compare their documented positions and decide which issues are most important to you.
Before you go, check the accepted voter ID for your election in Step 3, confirm the date and polling place with the official election authority, and review your choices.
